KNIGHT, AEGIS, ALPHA Core

01About these terms

KNIGHT and AEGIS (the "bots") and ALPHA Core, the shared layer that coordinates them (together, the "services"), are developed and operated by Saikat Mahara, an individual developer, under the name SAIKATxALPHA / TEAM SAIKATxALPHA ("we", "us", "our"). SAIKATxALPHA is a project name, not a registered company.

These terms are an agreement between you and us about how you may use the services. They do not replace Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, which also apply whenever you use Discord, including when you interact with the bots.

02Acceptance

You accept these terms when you add either bot to a Discord server, configure it, run its commands, or otherwise interact with it. If you do not agree, do not use the services, and remove the bots from any server you manage.

If you add a bot to a server on behalf of a community or group, you confirm that you are allowed to do so on its behalf.

03Eligibility

You must meet Discord's minimum age requirement for your country and hold a Discord account in good standing. The services are not directed at anyone below Discord's minimum age.

04The services

  • KNIGHT provides moderation and security: automated detection of profanity, spam, mass mentions and invite links; raid and new-account alerts; warnings, timeouts, kicks and bans; escalation points; case history and reports; and optional voice moderation.
  • AEGIS provides music playback, channel, role and permission management, scheduled messages and reminders, events, welcome cards, a levels and server-currency system, research digests, activity reports and the optional ALPHA voice assistant.
  • ALPHA Core turns instructions from authorised users into a fixed set of permitted bot actions. It checks permissions first and asks for confirmation before higher-risk actions.

Features can vary between servers, depending on how administrators configure them and which optional features the operator has enabled.

05Server administrators

If you add or configure a bot in a server, you are responsible for how it is used there. In particular, you agree to:

  • give the bots only the Discord permissions they need, and review role hierarchy and protected roles before turning on enforcement;
  • review automated moderation settings, and decide when to switch KNIGHT from simulation mode to live enforcement;
  • tell your members which features are active, particularly moderation logging, voice listening, voice moderation and activity tracking;
  • get any notice or consent that applies before turning on voice features (see section 9);
  • grant trusted or ALPHA access only to people you trust with the actions it allows;
  • play music only from sources you have the right to use, and follow the terms of any station or provider you choose;
  • follow Discord's Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Developer Policy, and the laws that apply to you and your community.

Moderation decisions in your server, including appeals, belong to your server staff. We do not review or overturn individual moderation decisions made in your community.

06Acceptable use

You may use the services to run, moderate and enrich your Discord community within these terms. You must not:

  • use the services to harass, threaten, dox, discriminate against, or otherwise harm anyone;
  • record, transcribe or monitor people's voices without the notice or consent the law requires;
  • use the services to break the law, or to infringe copyright or other rights, including by streaming audio you are not entitled to share;
  • attempt to get around permission checks, confirmations, rate limits or usage caps, or impersonate an authorised user;
  • flood the bots with automated or excessive requests, or deliberately trigger errors to disrupt them;
  • probe, scan or attack the bots, their host or the providers they rely on, or try to access data that isn't yours;
  • reverse engineer or misuse the services in a way that breaks Discord's policies or these terms;
  • use the services to send spam, unsolicited advertising or mass unsolicited messages.

07Automated moderation and its limits

KNIGHT's automated moderation uses pattern matching, word lists and behaviour rules. Like any automated system, it can be wrong.

  • False positives and false negatives happen. KNIGHT can flag harmless content, and it can miss harmful content, including content that is obfuscated, depends on context, or is in a language or style it does not recognise.
  • Simulation mode is the default. Automated actions are recorded but not carried out until an administrator turns on enforcement.
  • Safeguards limit actions. KNIGHT checks its own permissions, role hierarchy and protected roles. It does not moderate bots, the server owner or itself automatically. Quoted text and code blocks are flagged for review instead of punished.
  • Voice moderation is capped. When voice moderation is on, automatic action based on speech recognition goes no further than a warning, or a timeout if an administrator configures that. Uncertain transcripts go to staff review, and KNIGHT never kicks or bans based on speech recognition.
  • It does not replace human moderation. Server staff stay responsible for reviewing cases and handling appeals.

08Music and third-party content providers

AEGIS plays audio from openly licensed catalogues and directories (for example, Creative Commons and public-domain recordings), internet radio stations, direct audio links supplied by administrators, and audio files the operator provides. Which sources are available depends on the operator's configuration.

  • AEGIS does not extract or rebroadcast audio from YouTube, Spotify or SoundCloud. If you share a link from those services, AEGIS may look up only the track's title and then search the supported sources for it.
  • Third-party catalogues and stations can change, remove, rate-limit or stop providing content at any time. Searches may return nothing, a different version, or a stream that fails to play.
  • Content from third-party providers is subject to their own licences and terms. Some radio stations may limit rebroadcasting, and you are responsible for respecting those terms in your server.
  • We do not own, control or endorse third-party content and are not responsible for it.

09Voice features and consent

Two features process speech. Both are off until someone turns them on.

ALPHA voice assistant (AEGIS)

An authorised user starts listening in a voice channel. AEGIS then posts a notice in the server and processes audio only from users the server has authorised to use ALPHA. It does not process audio from other members of the channel. While listening, each utterance from an authorised speaker is sent to a cloud speech-to-text provider. This includes speech that does not begin with the wake word, because the wake word is detected from the transcript. By default, each recognised command is posted as text in the server's ALPHA channel. Administrators can turn this off.

Voice moderation (KNIGHT)

A server administrator can turn on voice moderation and start it in a voice channel. KNIGHT then transcribes speech from members of that channel, except bots, the server owner and members with exempt roles. It does this to detect rule-breaking language, which means audio from ordinary members is sent to the speech-to-text provider.

Your responsibility

Before turning on either voice feature, the administrator or authorised user must give clear notice to the people in the channel and get any consent that applicable law requires. Do not turn on voice features where people have not been told, or where recording or transcription is not lawful.

Limitations

  • Speech recognition can mishear words, names and accents. ALPHA may fail to recognise a command, or recognise the wrong one. Higher-risk actions requested by voice need confirmation.
  • Voice features depend on a third-party provider and its free-plan quotas. If a usage cap is reached or the provider is unavailable, they pause.
  • Voice features have not been certified for any particular accuracy, accessibility or safety standard. Don't rely on them in an emergency or for anything critical.

10Optional AI features

Where the operator has enabled it, ALPHA may use a hosted AI model in two cases: to interpret an instruction its built-in parser does not understand, and to write a short synthesis of research results. Any action the AI suggests goes through the same validation, permission and confirmation checks as a typed command. Research syntheses are labelled as AI-generated inference.

AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Check it before relying on it.

11Third-party services

The services run on Discord and rely on other providers, such as speech-to-text and AI providers, music catalogues and public research sources. Our Privacy Policy lists them. Your use of those services is governed by their terms and policies. We do not control them and are not responsible for their availability, content or practices.

12Availability, changes, suspension and discontinuation

  • The services are provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uptime, response times or continuous availability. Discord outages, provider limits, maintenance, hosting problems and other factors can interrupt them.
  • We may add, change, limit or remove features or commands at any time, including turning off optional features such as voice or AI.
  • We may temporarily suspend the services for maintenance, security or abuse prevention.
  • We may discontinue either bot, or the services as a whole, at any time. Where reasonably possible, we will give notice through the contact channels in section 20.
  • We may limit which servers can use the bots.

13Your content and data

You keep any rights you have in content you post on Discord. To run the services, you allow us to process the content and information Discord sends to the bots, as described in our Privacy Policy. That includes messages the bots can see, voice audio when voice features are on, commands and server configuration. This permission lasts only as long as needed to provide, secure and improve the services.

14Intellectual property

The bots' software, names, designs and this website belong to us or our licensors. These terms do not give you any right to them beyond using the services as permitted here. Third-party names and trademarks, including Discord, belong to their owners. Using them does not imply any endorsement or affiliation.

15Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the services will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that automated moderation or speech recognition will be accurate, or that any content from third-party providers will be available or lawful to use in your situation.

Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions. Where that is the case, they apply only to the extent the law allows.

16Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, community, reputation or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the services. This includes moderation actions taken or not taken, and the conduct of other users or third-party providers.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, or affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.

17Suspension and termination

You can stop using the services at any time by removing the bots from your server. We may suspend or end access for a user or server, including by having a bot leave the server, if we reasonably believe these terms, Discord's policies or the law have been broken, or if it is necessary to protect the services, other users or third parties.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination continue to apply. These include sections 13 to 16.

18Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the services change. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will try to give reasonable notice in advance. Continuing to use the services after an update takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

19Reporting abuse and support

  • A moderation decision in a particular server: contact that server's staff. They control how the bots are configured and used there.
  • Misuse of the bots, a security issue, or a bug: contact us using the details in section 20. Include the bot's name, the server ID if relevant, and what happened. Please do not include passwords, tokens or other secrets.
  • Content that breaks Discord's rules: you can also report it directly to Discord through its in-app reporting tools.

Support is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee a response time.
